Commercial Intruder Alarm Monitoring and Police Response (URN)

A monitored intruder alarm provides a critical additional layer of protection - particularly for premises that are unoccupied overnight or at weekends. Your alarm is connected to a 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). When triggered, the ARC notifies you immediately and - if you hold a Unique Reference Number (URN) - can request a police response without delay.

A URN is issued by your local police force and is required for police response to automated alarm activations. To obtain a URN, your alarm system must be installed and maintained to the required standard by an SSAIB-approved company. As an SSAIB-approved installer, we can advise on URN eligibility and the system standard required for your premises.

Intruder Alarm System Types - Wired, Wireless, Hybrid and Smart

Grade 2 and Grade 3 Commercial Intruder Alarm Systems

Commercial intruder alarm systems are graded under PD 6662:2017 and EN 50131, which define the level of security the system must provide:

  • Grade 2: the standard grade for most commercial premises. Required by most insurers for commercial buildings. Detects intruders via PIR motion sensors, door/window contacts and vibration detectors. Suitable for offices, retail premises, warehouses and the majority of commercial buildings.
  • Grade 3: a higher-security grade required by some insurers for high-value or high-risk premises. Uses more sophisticated detection technology and is harder to defeat than a Grade 2 system. Required for certain police response (URN) applications.
