Residential Electrical Services - West Sussex and Hampshire
Our domestic electricians work with homeowners of all kinds - from a straightforward socket installation to a full rewire of an older property. We take the time to understand what you need, explain the options clearly and price the work transparently before we start. All our residential electrical work is NICEIC-certified on completion, which means your installation is backed by an independent regulatory body and the certificate is available for insurance purposes and future property sales.
A full house rewire replaces all the fixed electrical wiring in a property - the cables, consumer unit, sockets, light fittings and associated accessories. Most homes built before the 1970s will have wiring that is now at or beyond its expected service life, and older wiring is a leading cause of domestic electrical fires. Signs that a rewire may be needed include rubber or fabric-insulated cables (pre-1960s), round-pin sockets, older fuse wire consumer units, frequent fuse trips or RCD operations, or an unsatisfactory result on an EICR.
We carry out full and partial rewires for homes across West Sussex and Hampshire. A partial rewire addresses specific circuits or areas of the property where wiring is deficient, rather than replacing the entire installation - often the most practical and cost-effective approach where only part of the property has ageing wiring. We will assess the installation and advise on the most appropriate scope of work.

The consumer unit - commonly called the fuse board or fuse box - is the heart of your home's electrical installation. It contains the circuit breakers and RCDs that protect each circuit in the property. Older consumer units with rewirable fuse wire, or even early MCB boards without RCD protection, no longer meet current safety standards and can leave your home without adequate protection against electrical faults and fire.
We supply and install modern consumer units for homes across West Sussex and Hampshire. A new consumer unit will include RCD or RCBO protection for all circuits, correct current ratings for each circuit, and a neat, clearly labelled arrangement that is easy to understand and reset after a trip. We carry out the upgrade with minimal disruption - in most cases the installation can be completed in a single day - and certify the work on completion.
- Signs you may need a consumer unit upgrade: your current board has rewirable fuses; you have had repeated nuisance tripping; you are having additional circuits added; an EICR has identified your consumer unit as a C2 or C3 item; you are selling or remortgaging your property.

From a single additional socket to a new circuit for a kitchen extension, home office or garden room, our electricians carry out electrical installation work for homeowners across West Sussex and Hampshire. Common projects include:
- Additional sockets - in rooms where the existing provision is inadequate, or at desk height for home office use
- USB charging sockets - integrated USB-A and USB-C sockets in kitchens, bedrooms and home offices
- Lighting circuits - new lighting layouts, loft conversions, extensions and garden lighting
- Kitchen and bathroom circuits - dedicated circuits for new appliances, towel rails and shower units
- Garden and outbuilding power - external sockets, shed and garage power supplies, garden lighting
- EV charger installation - see our EV charging page for home charger installation details
Intermittent electrical faults - lights that flicker, sockets that stop working, RCDs that trip for no obvious reason - can be frustrating and, if left, can indicate a developing problem that may present a genuine risk. Our electricians are experienced at tracking down elusive faults methodically, explaining what they find and repairing the problem correctly.
We also carry out straightforward repairs: replacement of damaged sockets and switches, repair of lighting circuits, replacement of broken accessories and repair of surface wiring damage. There is no job too small - if you have an electrical problem in your home, call us and we will arrange a visit.
Some electrical problems cannot wait - a complete loss of power, sparking sockets, signs of overheating or burning smells from an electrical fitting all need immediate attention. Contact us to discuss emergency electrical cover for your home.

Frequently Asked Questions
Key indicators include rubber or fabric-covered wiring (pre-1960s installation), round-pin plug sockets, a fuse board with rewirable fuses or early MCBs without RCD protection, persistent fuse trips or RCD operations, discolouration around sockets or switches, or an unsatisfactory result on an EICR inspection. If you are unsure, an EICR will give you a definitive assessment of the condition of your installation and identify any specific areas of concern.
The duration depends on the size of the property. A typical three-bedroom house takes three to five days. Larger properties or those with more complex layouts will take longer. We will confirm the expected programme when we quote the work. Most of the disruption occurs during first fix - the installation of cables and back boxes - with second fix (fitting of accessories, consumer unit and testing) typically being much cleaner and quicker.
A full rewire involves chasing cables into walls and ceilings, which requires making good the plasterwork afterwards. We make good all cable runs, but first fix work typically leaves surfaces that need a skim coat and redecoration. We discuss the extent of making-good work before starting and can arrange for a plasterer if required. Second fix - fitting of sockets, switches and light fittings - involves no plasterwork.

They are different names for the same thing - the main electrical distribution board in your home. Older boards with rewirable fuses are commonly called fuse boards or fuse boxes. Modern boards with circuit breakers and RCDs are formally called consumer units. Whatever your board is called, if it contains rewirable fuses or lacks RCD protection on most circuits, it is worth having an electrician assess whether an upgrade is appropriate.
An EICR is not a legal requirement for owner-occupiers, but it is strongly recommended for older properties, before purchasing a property, or after any significant electrical work. For landlords, an EICR is a legal requirement every five years. See our EICR page for full details on inspection requirements and what the inspection covers.

NAO Report Highlights Ongoing Issues with Cladding Remediation
The safety of our homes and businesses is a priority for everyone, but the tragic Grenfell Tower fire of 2017 exposed significant failings in the construction and safety standards of buildings across the UK. This disaster which claimed 72 lives brought to light the dangers of combustible cladding and the systemic issues in ensuring building safety.
A recent report from the National Audit Office (NAO) highlighted serious concerns about the pace and scope of this work, and in this article we will unpack these findings.
